SMARTTIMES 2008 and a DVD as a souvenir.
It was our pleasure to participate in the SMARTTIMES 2008 convention in Zell am See as Smart proud fans and owners. Again we were amazed at the atmosphere of the convention and happy to meet Smart fans from all over EUROPE. The group of Polish fans we were part of attracted the attention of the filming crew. Our white and red shirts, hats, and flags attracted also the attention of the host of the convention.
After watching the DVD souvenir we were shocked to find that apart from a half second flick there is no evidence of our presence at the convention. Also the presence of the Italians, Danes, Czechs and other representatives has been ‘erased’ from the footage. We believed that the SMARTTIMES 2008 DVD was to be a symbol of an event that unites many nations under the name of one tiny car. As it turns out the only people to be seen on the film are Austrians, Germans and the two brave Swiss. Would that mean that the rest of the participants did not deserve to be shown on the DVD?
We believe that all the people who took part in the 2008 Zell am See convention proved that they are free of any prejudice and are all equal. The DVD however clearly shows that the Smart Family is far smaller than we thought it was. What might seem interesting is the fact that a few native Germans and Austrians share our opinion of the film after watching it.
Does the KB FILM DVD present the idea propagated by the SMARTTIMES organizers? We do hope that it is otherwise, nevertheless it is worth to give it a thought.
Kind regards,
